Life in Framingham walks the line between city and country. With 67,000 residents over 26 sq. mi., Framingham is the largest town in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Framingham Public Schools eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and Framingham High School with the Thayer Campus enjoy a low student: teacher ratio and an award-winning high school broadcasting program.

The elementary schools have specialized foci and include a two-way bilingual school, Multiple Intelligences School, Global Studies School, and a school focusing on the Literary Arts. Framingham High School has a richly diverse student body with about 10% of students speaking a non-English first language and coming from across the globe. Its students have enjoyed success in academic, athletic, and creative disciplines. The Eugene Thayer Campus offers a smaller, nurturing program to best insure the success of students at risk of dropping out.

Educational alternatives abound including the McAuliffe Regional Charter Public School, Wayland Academy, Sudbury Valley School, Summit Montessori School, the Learning Center for the Deaf, and religion-based schools. Framingham, as part of the greater Boston area, is close to an impressive array of higher educational options including some of the world's premiere institutions and is home to Framingham State University.

Framingham, an Historic Place, with three historic districts and seven historic buildings, also offers all the modern entertainment and cultural phenomena. A movie at the multiplex, a day at the Danforth  Museum of Art, a performance at Nevins Hall in Historic Memorial Building are all in easy reach. Framingham is also home to a golf oddity; the 14 hole Millwood Farms golf course.

The Framingham Public Library and McAuliffe Branch, serving citizens 7 days a week, provides an extensive array of programming that goes beyond book clubs to drop-in crafts, poetry workshops, and special events. Framingham maintains Keefe indoor pool, the Loring Skating Arena, tennis courts, beaches, playgrounds, and ball fields for the enjoyment of residents.

Framingham is home to the metro West YMCA.  Recently fully renovated, the Y in Framingham is a hub of community activity.  Including a full indoor basketball court, indoor pool, and state of the art work out room, the Framingham Y is a wonderful resource for Framingham and surrounding towns.

Callahan State Park is a recreational gem in Framingham providing miles of walking trails.  The park meanders through forest and fields.  Providing an escape for mountain bikers, walkers, and dog owners this state park is a true community resource.  The park is also an excellent location to cross country ski, sled, and snow shoe in winter. 

The Commute from Framingham

Transportation options include regional bus service and MBTA commuter rail service to Boston and Worcester. Its location on Routes 9 and 90 make highway access a breeze.
