Wayland Community, Culture & Recreation

Wayland real estate comes with a long history of civic devotion to maintaining and preserving the local land and its resources. Today, that means enjoying the open space and wildlife at the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and the Cow Common conservation area--work on your green thumb at Cow Common's public garden plots. A long seasonal activity list is available from Wayland Recreation, but look for the public beach at Lake Cochituate, tennis courts, playgrounds, hiking and horse riding trails, and a swimming pool.

Historic Wayland Library was founded in 1848 as the first free public library in Massachusetts. Vokes Theatre offers live theater--and opportunities to audition. Golfers should look for the Wayland Country Club and the Sandy Burr Country Club.

The Commute from Wayland

From Wayland, it's a short drive to the major highways, Routes 90 and 128. Route 9 is also easily accessible.  Rte 27 bisects Wayland and connects for easy access to route 9 and the Mass Pike.  Many commuters access route 20, or Boston Post Road, to access 128 or the Newton and Waltham area.
